  • Gunther and Damian Priest’s Survivor Series: WarGames match might end unexpectedly according to WWE fans

WWE Survivor Series: WarGames Premium Live Event is almost here, and the WWE Universe has already started vocalizing its bold predictions. As of this writing, many expect Damian Priest to defeat Gunther at the PLE.

Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 will feature five matches, amongst which three will be contested for championships. WWE has been building up Gunther and Damian Priest’s rematch in recent weeks, and the challenger has looked strong ahead of the encounter.

However, Gunther has been portrayed as one of the most dominant superstars in recent years, and most fans felt he’d have a long reign with the World Heavyweight Championship. That sentiment seems to have shifted.

As part of USA Network’s “Who ya got?’ series, fans were asked to pick the winners of every Survivor Series match, and a majority were surprisingly backing Damian Priest to win back the World Title.

The votes were more predictable regarding the other title matches as both Bron Breakker and LA Knight were favorites to retain the Intercontinental and United States Championships, respectively.

Check out a screenshot of the fans’ prediction below:

What are the fans saying about the WarGames matches at Survivor Series?

The upcoming PLE has been built around the long-running Bloodline storyline as Roman Reigns’ team of babyfaces will take on Solo Sikoa’s faction. While Reigns will haveCM Punkon his side, Sikoa has recruited Bronson Reed to his team.

The five vs, five WarGames Match is expected to headline the show, and fans are confident it will end in favor of Roman Reigns and his alliance. As far as the women’s WarGames match is concerned, fans have similar feelings towards the babyfaces and are firmly behind Rhea Ripley and co. in their battle against Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Nia Jax, Candice LeRae, and Tiffany Stratton.

Check out a screenshot of the fans’ prediction below:

Survivor Series: WarGames will continue WWE’s five-match PLE model, and despite the compact card, fans should anticipate some big moments.

  • Triple H may have subtly confirmed 37-year-old star was the one who attacked Jade Cargill; it would be a massive swerve!

Last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown featured Jade Cargill being brutally attacked backstage by a mysterious assailant. Her tag team partner, Bianca Belair, was competing in the Women’s United States Championship tournament at the time.

Footage on the Titantron showed Cargill lying motionlesson a broken car windshield, prompting Belair to leave the match immediately. The 32-year-old was immediately sent to a local medical facility.

Bianca Belair may not be the mystery attacker

While Belair expressed concern for her partner, fans and experts have speculated that she could be the attacker. However, a fan pointed out a segment from the latest SmackDown episode that suggests Naomi might be the assailant.

A fan on X noted that Naomi, during the segment with Team Rhea Ripley, seemed solely focused on the WarGames match, mentioning issues with Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton but not Cargill’s attack. In contrast, Belair accused someone from Team Liv Morgan of targeting her partner.

Why would the 37-year-old have attacked Jade Cargill

Speculation suggests Naomi may have attacked Cargill, who has felt overshadowed since the latter’s debut, her Tag Team Championship win with Belair, and her prominent role in the WarGames storyline.

Jade Cargill could solve the riddle and reveal that Naomi attacked her from behind and constantly tried to manipulate Bianca Belair to ruin their bond. However, when nothing worked, she tried to end Jade’s career. Amid these shocking revelations, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion could finally turn heel.

Why would Triple H turn a major babyface heel?

WWE has been riding a massive wave of success under Triple H’s creative supervision. Despite being at its peak, fans have pointed out a major issue that might result in a big problem for promotion in the near future. The issue is that the Stamford-based promotion does not have enough credible heels in the company.

Turning Naomi heel would give her a new direction in the women’s division, as with similar faces, the storyline might feel repetitive. Also, the 37-year-old has been a face superstar for a long time. Turning her heel would be a strategic move, as she might have a lot in store as a heel on television.

It will be interesting to see what major plans Triple H and the creative team have for Jade Cargill’s mystery attacker storyline and how it unfolds in the coming weeks.

  • Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline won’t lose at WarGames, says Bronson Reed, regardless of major WWE name’s unexpected return

Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline has been a force to reckon with on WWE SmackDown in the past few months. The faction recently joined forces with “Big” Bronson Reed and is set to face its biggest challenge in the form of the OG Bloodline and CM Punk in Canada at Survivor Series: WarGames. Meanwhile, The Aus-zilla is confident that his team will win the Men’s WarGames Match, and Paul Heyman’s return won’t affect the outcome.

Earlier this month, Paul Heyman unexpectedly returned to WWE TV and introduced a former world champion as the fifth member of Team Roman Reigns. The star was The Wiseman’s former client, CM Punk.

In an interview on WWE’s LA Previa, Bronson Reed spoke highly of Paul Heyman and the latter’s contribution to the industry. However, The Colossal asserted that The Wiseman’s return wouldn’t affect the match’s outcome, adding that Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline would prevail.

“I mean, he’s [Paul Heyman] one of the smartest guys in professional wrestling for sure, but the knowledge he brings is like no one else. At the end of the day, he’s not going to be there inside those two rings. He’s not going to be inside the cage. So, he’s not going to be a factor. He might help bruise them up backstage, but once we’re out there, we got the younger guys on our team—the guys who are bigger as well. So, we have the advantage,” Reed said. [From 04:40 onwards]

Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline gained the advantage heading into WWE Survivor Series: WarGames

Earlier this month, Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline regained momentum after a humiliating loss to Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns at WWE Bad Blood in Atlanta. The villainous group scored a win over the OG Bloodline in Saudi Arabia during a six-man tag team match.

This led to the reunion of the OG Bloodline, as Sami Zayn, The Usos, and Roman Reigns agreed to team up for another run to take down Solo Sikoa and his army on Friday Night SmackDown.

On the latest edition of Friday Night SmackDown, both factions were banned from ringside, as Jey Uso and Jacob Fatu locked horns to gain an advantage for WarGames in Canada. Unfortunately for Main Event Jey, The Samoan Werewolf needed no help and took charge in the final moments when he hit an Impaler DDT followed by a Moonsault to score the win.

It will be interesting to see if Solo and Co. emerge victorious later tonight.

  • AEW News & Rumor Roundup: Major star sadly might not wrestle for another year, WWE rejection setback, Adam Copeland’s big update

Welcome to today’s edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Adam Copeland (fka Edge) who is currently sidelined due to injury provided an update on his All Elite Wrestling status and there was a disagreement between WWE and Christian Cage.

We will also learn about Bryan Danielson’s whereabouts and how he is recuperating from his health issues following his full-time retirement. So without ado, let’s begin:

#4. Former AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson might not wrestle for another year

Bryan Danielson lost the AEW World Championship at WrestleDream to Jon Moxley. This was his last ever match as a full-time wrestler. He is currently spending time with his family and working on his health issues. His wife Brie Bella recently appeared on a podcastand revealed that The American Dragon still required surgery.

Bella didn’t provide a timeline. However, according to the Wrestling Observer, Danielson will not enter the squared circle for over a year. His recovery will be long, irrespective of surgery.

#3. Adam Copeland is ready to wrestle again

Former AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland fractured his leg earlier this year in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match against Malakai Black. His recovery has been going well and he recently stated that he is ready for in-ring return.

“My brain forgets I’m 51, but my body quickly reminded me, yeah, you just jumped from 21 feet, a**hole. That’s technically three stories. You’re 51, quit it. But I feel good. I’m ready to get back at it and to get busy again.” [H/T: Fightful]

Copeland made his AEW debut in October 2023 and is a two-time TNT Champion.

#2. WWE rejected Christian Cage’s attempt for a trademark

One of AEW star Christian Cage’s nicknames is Captain Charisma. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the 51-year-old tried to trademark his nickname. However, WWE opposed it.

“Christian Cage tried to trademark the term ‘Captain Charisma’ and was opposed by WWE,” read the report.

Cage is a two-time TNT Champion as well as a former World Trios Champion. He currently leads The Patriarchy.

#1. Matt Hardy on the Ricky Starks situation

The reason for Ricky Starks’ absence from All Elite Wrestling programming remains unknown. He is heavily rumored to be joining WWE. Former AEW star Matt Hardy is a huge fan of the 34-year-old. Recently, on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Jon Alba asked him what he felt about a wrestler under contract not getting booked. The 50-year-old replied that The Absolute probably knows what he’s doing:

“In theory, if you signed a contract, you have made this agreement to do that, to do that time, so it is what it is. Now, I’m very different… I could see if someone did not want to be, if I’m the boss, I am not the boss, but if I was the boss, and someone asked me, like, ‘Hey, I’m not happy here, I would like to move on, I would like to do this, I’d like to do that…’ I get that, and I would probably think a little differently,” Matt Hardy said.

    Check out the video below:

Ricky Starks is a former World Tag Team Champion and a former FTW Champion. His last AEW match took place in March of this year. It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for the star.

  • “He alone can beat Roman Reigns” – Top WWE star makes major claim about real-life Bloodline member ahead of WarGames

Roman Reigns has rarely taken a pinfall loss in recent history, as the former WWE Champion remained dominant for over three years. Recently, Bronson Reed revealed that he believes a Bloodline member can beat The Original Tribal Chief alone if needed.

Solo Sikoa became the heir to The Island of Relevancy when Reigns lost his title at WrestleMania XL and went on a hiatus. However, the move might’ve been premature as The Original Tribal Chief returned to the Stamford-based promotion at SummerSlam to teach The Street Champion a lesson for his actions.

In an interview on WWE’s LA Previa YouTube channel, Bronson Reed spoke highly of Solo Sikoa and acknowledged him heading into WarGames. While discussing the game plan for the upcoming match, Reed stated the 31-year-old star alone could defeat The Original Tribal Chief if it comes to it and further addressed their plan.

“I think the key to victory is to acknowledge Solo. Sola Sikoa is the new Tribal Chief. If we can boost him up and make him feel like he’s The Tribal Chief, I think it’s going to be undeniable on that night. He alone can beat Roman Reigns. [In WarGames match] The key to victory is singling out Roman Reigns,” Reed said. (From 06:45 onwards)

The Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa has scored a pinfall win over Roman Reigns at WWE Crown Jewel 2024

Earlier this year, Solo Sikoa added new members to The Bloodline in Roman Reigns’ absence from the Stamford-based company. Later, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu tried to replicate the original group’s success by capturing the WWE Tag Team Championships.

However, Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline failed to win the big one as The Original Tribal Chief returned to the company and feuded with them. In the coming weeks, The Usos reunited and stood tall against the villainous faction. Both sides agreed to a six-man tag team match in Saudi Arabia.

It was during this event that The Original Tribal Chief took the pinfall for his team after Solo Sikoa hit him with a Samoan Spike. The current Tribal Chief has the opportunity to score another win over Reigns and his team inside WarGames tonight.

  • “Made no sense” – Legend says WWE wasted audience’s time with Kane backstage drama

Glenn Jacobs’ Kane character was forced to unmask on the June 23, 2003, episode of WWE RAW after losing to Triple H. Jim Ross, a WWE commentator and executive at the time, believes the legendary wrestler should have been booked differently after the unmasking.

On July 14, 2003, Ross told Kane in a backstage interview that he needed psychological help. As Stone Cold Steve Austin watched from the ring, The Big Red Machine reacted to Ross’ remarks by dousing the announcer in gasoline before setting him on fire.

Ross said on his Grilling JR podcast that he had no problem participating in the outlandish segment, but he believes it lacked logic:

“Made no sense. I didn’t mind doing it because they had a stunt double come in and they burned him. They just wanted me to scream, which I did, but I thought it was a waste of time because it was unrealistic. It was unbelievable.” [53:35 – 53:51]

The segment ended with former WWE authority figure Stephanie McMahon shouting for help. Moments later, several backstage officials arrived to put the fire out.

Another reason why Jim Ross disliked the Kane segment

WWE wrestlers and on-screen personalities are often written off television for several weeks after being on the receiving end of a serious attack.

Jim Ross thinks WWE’s decision-makers should have removed him from programming to highlight his injuries from the fire. However, he returned to the broadcast table almost immediately.

“I was back on TV in a week or two,” Ross continued. “It wasn’t even sold well, and that ain’t my problem. I didn’t book it. I did what I was told, and so I thought it was a waste of time, Conrad [Grilling JR host Conrad Thompson]. It was not a good scene for me. I understand the logic, I do. It just was unbelievable logic, and that’s not the best kind.” [54:03 – 54:31]

In the same podcast episode, Ross recalled how a major WWE controversy in the 1990s alienated half the locker room.

  • Jimmy Uso makes a major heel move ahead of WWE Survivor Series: WarGames; betrayal on cards?

Jimmy Uso is set to compete alongside his old stablemates and CM Punk at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames. However, the former tag team champion has teased a heel turn with his words ahead of the five-on-five match.

Jimmy returned to action at Bad Blood where he cost The Bloodline after getting ousted from the group earlier this year. Jey Uso and Sami Zayn soon joined him and Reigns in their battle against the heel faction. Last Friday on SmackDown, Paul Heyman broughtCM Punkinto the fold, revealing that The Best in the World will be the fifth member of The OG Bloodline.

The stage for the Survivor Series main event has now been set. The two sides will clash in the WarGames structure. However, there are multiple issues in the babyfaces’ team, with Reigns and CM Punk on odds over Paul Heyman while Jey also has issues with The OTC. Jimmy Uso added further fuel to the fire in WWE’s recent video, calling himself the starting quarterback of the “No Yeet University.”

It is well known that Yeet is Jey Uso’s signature taunt and thus Jimmy’s words ahead of the WarGames match could be a subtle hint that Big Jim could once again betray his twin brother.

Jimmy Uso recalled his favorite WWE Survivor Series: WarGames moment involving Jey Uso

The Usos are one of the greatest tag teams of all time. The duo has held the Tag Team Championship on eight occasions and currently holds the record for the longest Tag Title reign in WWE history. They also led the SmackDown team to victory against RAW in the traditional five-on-five Survivor Series match in 2018. Jimmy Uso noted that it is his favorite Survivor Series moment of all time:

“Faouritve Survivor Series moment of all time had to be Jimmy and Jey, The Usos, were the captains, and we got the W for SmackDown,” Jey said.

Jimmy and Jey were separated for nearly a year after the former cost his younger twin the Tribal Combat match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2023. The duo reunited a few weeks ago in their pursuit to take down Solo Sikoa’s Bloodline.

  • Wrestling legend urges Tony Khan to take the title off Jon Moxley and crown former WWE star as the new AEW World Champion (Exclusive)

Wrestling veteran Bill Apter wants AEW President Tony Khan to make Jon Moxley lose the World Title to a former WWE star. The name in question is none other than Bobby Lashley.

The All Mighty has been a World Champion in promotions all over the world, including TNA/IMPACT Wrestling, WWE, and more. He left the Stamford-based promotion earlier this year and recently made his AEW debut and aligned with MVP and Shelton Benjamin in The Hurt Syndicate. Since his arrival in All Elite Wrestling, Bobby Lashley has competed in two matches; in his first match, he squashed Cheeseburger on Dynamite, and at the Full Gear pay-per-view last weekend, Lashley picked up a huge victory against former World Champion Swerve Strickland.

In the latest episode of Sportskeeda’s The Wrestling Time Machine podcast hosted by Mac Davis, Bill Apter stated that All Elite Wrestling should find a way to put the AEW World Championship on Bobby Lashley. He claimed that while current champion Jon Moxley is a great worker but Lashley looks more like a World Heavyweight Champion and can represent the company out in the world.

“I want to say that Swerve Strickland against Bobby Lashley, doesn’t matter what color they were, Swerve got the crap kicked out of him. Somehow AEW has to find a way to put the World Championship on Bobby Lashley. Jon Moxley is a street guy, great worker, very tough and all that. But if you want a champion that looks great in a suit, not wearing bummy clothing like Moxley, you know, casual clothing, you want somebody that you could send to a sports banquet who looks good. You want somebody who when they come to the ring, looks the part of a World Heavyweight Champion. Again, color has nothing to do with it, It’s Bobby Lashley.” [From 04:26 to 05:21]

Bill Apter encourages AEW to not drop the ball with Bobby Lashley

In the same episode of The Wrestling Time Machine, Senior editor Bill Apter sent a message to All Elite Wrestling management. He said they have a huge star in Bobby Lashley and called him World Heavyweight Championship material. Apter does not want the promotion to fumble the ball with The Almighty.

“If anyone here from AEW is watching this, the people that make the decisions, you’ve got somebody that you can’t blow this with. Bobby Lashley is World Heavyweight Championship material. Don’t blow it.” [From 06:53 to 07:10]

We will have to wait and see if Bobby Lashley captures gold in the Jacksonville-based promotion.

  • WWE Hall of Famer is unhappy with CM Punk over his shocking recent comments (Exclusive)

WWE Superstar CM Punk’s recent comments about his AEW matches did not sit well with Hall of Famer Teddy Long. The Best in the World is a former AEW World Champion.

CM Punk recently said that he wasted some matches on some wrestlers in his AEW run. The Best in the World was signed to All Elite Wrestling from 2021 to 2023. He won the World Title two times. However, his run with the company ended controversially after he got into a backstage fight with Jack Perry. In September 2023, Tony Khan fired Punk from the company.

Speaking on the recent edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s The Wrestling Time Machine hosted by Mac Davis, Teddy Long said that CM Punk shouldn’t be making comments like that about his matches. The former WWE SmackDown General Manager also noted how Punk competed in matches against MJF and wants to pull his name out of his ‘wasted’ matches list:

“Well, I don’t think he should say things like that. I think anybody that you step into the ring with, if they’re not polished, then your job is to help polish them. So anybody that stepped in there with him, if they’re slack and then he knows to go to him and talk to him and say, hey, hey, come on, man. You got to step it up. Here’s what we need to do. But then there are some guys that you can’t talk to. They don’t want to hear it. They already think they know it all. But one of the names he had in there is MJF. I have to pull that out. You ain’t gonna waste no time with MJF.”

Mac Davis also brought up Samoa Joe’s name and Teddy Long stated that getting in the ring with Joe is not a waste of time:

“Another guy. You ain’t wasting no time with Samoa Joe.” [11:14-11:56]

Dutch Mantell believes CM Punk and Roman Reigns could headline WWE WrestleMania

This week on WWE SmackDown, CM Punk teased a potential angle with Roman Reigns after they compete in the WarGames match at Survivor Series PLE. It is well known that Roman Reigns does not get along with The Best in the World.

In a recent edition of Storytime with Dutch Mantell podcast, the veteran said Punk vs. Roman Reigns could be a sell-out at WWE WrestleMania.

“I think CM Punk and Roman Reigns has sell-out written all over it. CM Punk, he has those really die-hard fans for him, and he’s not really that good of a technician. Now, he’s good, but he has great timing and he’s a great talker.”

The fans will have to wait and see if a storyline between CM Punk and Roman Reigns happens in the future.

  • The supposed Big Show of the WWE women’s division did NOT attack Jade Cargill, says analyst

One of the biggest wrestling stories in recent weeks has been Jade Cargill’s sudden removal from WWE TV. While speaking on his podcast, Peter Rosenberg seemingly ruled out Bayley as a potential attacker.

Originally scheduled to compete at Survivor Series, Jade Cargill was pulled from WWE TV last week on SmackDown. WWE booked an angle where the former AEW star was laid out in the parking lot after a brutal assault.

Naomi and Bayley were seen supporting Bianca Belair as Cargill was transported to a hospital and many wondered if one of the two former women’s champions was responsible for the attack.

During an episode of the Cheap Heat podcast, Peter Rosenberg denied the possibility of Bayley being the culprit as he felt it would be too obvious.

“Jade Cargill has been written off television apparently, being brutalized backstage by an unknown assailant. You’re going, Bayley? It can’t be Bayley.” [From 24:00 onwards]

Considering the number of heel and face turns Bayley has experienced in WWE, the SmackDown star was compared to Big Show on the podcast.

Paul Wight was infamously known for regularly switching roles and Peter Rosenberg agreed that Bayley was on a similar path in the women’s division.

Even though Bayley can switch back to being a villain, Rosenberg didn’t feel it would happen:

“She is getting there (on being the Big Show of the women’s division). It’s not Bayley, isn’t that too obvious?” [24:33 – 24:45]

Peter Rosenberg addresses the confusion surrounding Jade Cargill’s WWE status

The WWE analyst, like a majority of the fans, was looking for answers to explain the unexpected decision to give Cargill a break from TV.

Some reports state she might be injured while others deny the claims and stress Cargill’s story is all a work.

Peter Rosenberg, for starters, was concerned about Jade Cargill’s well-being and most importantly hoped she wasn’t seriously hurt. Rosenberg also pointed out that the latest setback will inevitably delay Jade’s feud against tag team partner Bianca Belair, whenever that happens.

“We’re left to know, A, how long is Jade Cargill out? B, if this is as serious as it is being speculated, and the way they wrote her off suggests serious. The way they wrote her off was like, you’re not going to see this person for a while! And that would mean to me what a potentially sad thing. Obviously, we hope she is okay and is able to resume her career and be good.” [From 30:25 onwards]

WWE revealing the identity of Cargill’s attacker is the next big thing that fans are looking forward to and we should know more about the same after Survivor Series.
